Art and DT

At Chilvers Coton we take part in lots of 'Art and Design' and 'Design Technology' activities throughout the school.

From the Nursery onwards children are taught to use a range of materials creatively and to use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination. We love practising a wide range of art and design techniques through the exploration of colour, pattern, texture, lines and shapes. We also learn about the work of artists, craft makers and designers and have a go at their techniques and styles ourselves.

In Design and Technology, children use a variety of creative and practical activities and are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in designing, making and evaluating their products. During our STEM week, children will have the opportunity to meet with STEM ambassadors in order for them to gain a wider understanding and become enthused about Design and Technology in the wider context, such as the local community and industry.

We and have recently hung some artwork in the hall that each year group took part in.  This was part of our work on 'Black History Month' where the children had a fantastic opportunity to learn about the country 'Ghana' and its culture. They learned that recycling played a big part in the Ghanaian culture and that patterns and symmetrical designs had a major impact on their art work.
