Chilvers Coton Community School and Nursery

Inspiring Excellence Everyday

Geography

What does Geography look like at Chilvers Coton?

Our children are very curious about the world around them. Through our Geography sessions, children learn to compare landscapes and develop their knowledge and vocabulary about places near and far. During our Geography sessions children will deepen their understanding  year on year through the development of key Geographical skills. This will be achieved through whole class teaching, group work and individual tasks.

Our children enjoy using maps, globes and atlases to find out about the world around them including our local environment. We use our Local area to support the teaching of Geography using our field for field work and mapping.

We teach all of our Geography through exciting and engaging topics such as 'Can a penguin and polar bear ever be friends?' and 'Who is the king of the Savanna?'

We have a variety of resources that we use to engage our children including aerial view maps, compasses, globes, Beebots and many more. We always encourage our children to ask questions and extend their thinking through home learning wherever possible.
