Pupil Premium is an initiative from the Government which targets extra money for our pupils who might be deemed to be disadvantaged. The premium is provided to give support to these pupils so they may reach their potential.

Who is entitled to the Pupil Premium Funding?
The Pupil Premium is a Government initiative that targets extra money at pupils who come from backgrounds that might be deemed to be disadvantaged. The premium is provided in order to support these pupils so they may reach their potential. Eligibility for the Pupil Premium from April 2012 is for any pupil who has been entitled to Free School Meals (FSM) in the last six years. In addition, pupils who are “looked after” by the authority (CLA) or whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces are also entitled to the premium. From April 2014, schools in England can receive the Pupil Premium for children adopted from care, or who left care under a Special Guardianship Order on or after 30 December 2005. Schools can also claim the Pupil Premium for children who left care under a Residence Order on or after 14 October 1991.
Universal Infant free school meals in England
If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, they will automatically be entitled to universal infant free school meals. Additional pupil premium free school meals funding is separate to this. If you meet the benefits-related free school meals eligibility criteria, then your child's school will get additional funding.
You may be entitled to the Pupil Premium Funding if you qualify for any of these qualifying benefits.
- Income Support
- Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)
-Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
-Support from the National Asylum Support Service
-Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit
-Universal Credit (with an annual income of less than £7,400)
-Both Income-Based and Contribution-Based JSA/ESA if you receive the same amount for both.
-Families who are awarded Child Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by HMRC, not in excess of £16,190 are also eligible to claim free school meals providing there is no entitlement to Working Tax Credit (unless in respect of a 4-week ‘run-on’).

It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their settings. Some of the ways we use our is: to subsidise music lessons, after-school clubs and school trips.
