Chilvers Coton Community School and Nursery

Inspiring Excellence Everyday

Art and Design

What does Art and Design look like at Chilvers Coton?

We want our children to foster a love of art at a young age, giving all the children the opportunity to develop their skills through a creative curriculum. We want our children to be able to take their inspiration from great artists to generate their own ideas and creativity. We want the children to be given the opportunity to engage in a variety of art forms; drawing, painting, printing, collage and sculpture and to have fun!

Intent

At Chilvers, we provide memorable art lessons that develop the children's art skills and prepare them for the next stage in their education. Our Art curriculum promotes curiosity and empowers our children to become independent and resilient learners. Children’s creativity is extended with
opportunities to explore and share their thoughts and idea  through art, music, movement, dance, their imagination and role play, both indoors and outdoors. We have links with the local community to enable our children to showcase their work.

Implementation

At Chilvers , children develop a real love for Art and Design. We provide carefully planned learning opportunities to ensure there is a progression of skills, understanding and knowledge across the school. Children are given the opportunity to explore different media such as paint, clay and printing and as a result, children develop their artistic techniques which often enhances other curriculum areas. The work of famous artists is studied to illustrate the variety of skills and knowledge in order to inspire and encourage their creativity.

Impact

Our Art curriculum is structured so that children develop essential skills and knowledge to enable them to be confident artists by the time they leave Year 2. We strive for every child to achieve their full potential in art, develop a love of art, be ready for their next stage in learning and inspire aspirations for the future career paths.
