SEND

At Chilvers Coton School, we are welcoming and inclusive. All of our teachers are teachers of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and our aims for pupils with SEND are the same as for all of our pupils. We have high ambitions for our pupils with SEND and set realistic but challenging targets for them. 

 

We actively encourage parent partnership to support the progress and attainment of our pupils with SEND for all subjects. Pupil's personal, social and emotional development is at the heart of our provision.

 

Our parents and carers SEND Information Report which can be found on this page gives information about how we identify, support and cater for our children with SEND and provides more information about how we deliver our SEND Policy. Our SEND Policy and Acessibility Plan can be found on our Policies page.

Local Authority SEND Provision

  • Local Offer The local authority must publish its ‘Local Offer’ of provision. The Warwickshire Local Offer is available at this website
  • Warwickshire SENDIASS Warwickshire SENDIASS offers free, impartial and confidential information, advice and support around various topics relating to SEND for children and young people ages 0-25 living in Warwickshire and their parents or carers.

Support for Sensory and Physical Difficulties

  • NHS Sensory Checklist and Toolkit This is a Sensory checklist that you can use to identify areas of sensory sensitivity that you child might have. Use the sensory toolkit to find strategies which might support your child. Click on the 'Sensory Based Approaches' tab to locate these documents.
  • ChatHealth If you would are a parent or carer of a child aged 5-16, you can text a school nurse on 07520619376, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. They can offer confidential advice about lots of health issues including general health, child development, behaviour and toileting advice. If you are a parent or carer of a child aged 0-5, you can text a health visitor on 07520615293, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. They can offer confidential support regarding feeding, sleeping, child development and behaviour management issues. Messages are charged at your usual rate.

Support for Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs

  • RISE Help and advice for worries about your child's behaviour and mental health
  • Dimensions Tool: A Health and Well-Being Tool The Dimensions of Health and Wellbeing is a free online tool providing a personalise profile and self-care information to support adults, children and young people in Coventry and Warwickshire. The Dimensions tool is available 24/7 and creates a Dimensions report which provides information about self-care, local services and support.
  • Young Minds School Anxiety Information This website provides information and tips to support your child if they are struggling with emotionally based school anxiety or separation anxiety which is creating a reluctance to attend school. Young Minds also offer a free Parents Helpline Monday to Friday where you can get confidential advice about a child or young person's mental health.
  • What's Normal? Standing in the Gap, a child mental health charity, have produced a series of videos to help parents identify what normal emotional development is for children, as well as when to get help and what shouldn't be ignore.
  • Coventry and Warwickshire MIND Coventry and Warwickshire Mind is a local mental health charity linked to Mind, the national mental health charity in England and Wales. Coventry and Warwickshire MIND offer a range of mental health support services for adults and children and young people.
  • Mind Ed MindEd is a free educational resource on children, young people, adults and older people's mental health.
  • Kooth Kooth provides free, anonymous, and confidential support for young people and adults. It provides a range of services, including live chats with trained counsellors, peer-support forums, mood trackers and self-help tools.
  • Child Bereavement UK Child Bereavement UK is a UK-based charity that supports families and professionals when a baby or child of any age dies or is grieving the loss of a loved one.

Support for Cognition and Learning Needs

  • British Dyslexia Association The British Dyslexia Association provide information and advice about supporting a child who might have dyslexia.

Support for Communication and Language Needs

  • NHS Speech and Language Development Resources Here you'll find advice sheets, visual supports, and other resources which will help you support your child's speech and language development. This includes social stories, now and next boards and communication books. These can be printed off and used at home or anywhere your child may need them.
  • Makaton at Home Makaton is a language programme that combine signs, symbols and speech that enables people to communicate. Using signs can help people who do not use speech. Makaton supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression. This video models helpful Makaton to use at home.
  • Kid Sense: Expressive Language (Using Words and Language) A useful website which offers more information about expressive language such as why it is important and how to recognise if your child has expressive language difficulties. It also provides a list of activities to try to help improve expressive language.
  • Child's Progress Checker Speech and Language UK is a charity which offers a progress checker that parents and carers can use to identify areas that their child might be having difficulties in. At the end of the check, they direct you to helpful advice and resources to support your child at home. The charity also offers a free 30 minute confidential phone call with an experienced speech and language therapist if you are concerned about your child's talking and understanding of words.
  • Speech and Language Therapy Advice Line The Speech and Language Therapy Service offer a telephone advice line where you can discuss your concerns, ask questions, gain advice and ideas to help your child’s development. Call 02476 378620 if you live in North Warwickshire or 01926 567139 if you live in South Warwickshire.

Support for Health Needs

  • Connect for Health (your school nursing service) Health support for Warwickshire families including toileting, healthy eating, sleep, dental health, school anxiety and mental health. Through Connect for Health you can speak to a school nurse regarding health concerns for free by texting their confidential messaging service called Parentline. Their contact number is 07520619376.
