This year we are taking part in a Safe and Active Travel programme which has been developed to promote and support the delivery of road safety education and active travel interventions to schools.
As a school we work with our local Road Safety Officers to educate our children and their parents about the importance of road safety and active travel. Throughout the year we will be learning about and promoting different campaigns to encourage active travel journeys whether that be for the whole journey by walking, cycling, or scooting
In October the children in KS1 have been discussing the importance of being safe when they are in the street and crossing the road. We spoke about why this is even more important when they're outside in the evening, now that it gets darker much earlier and what they can do or wear to ensure that they can been seen.

Car Idling- Turn your engine off!
What is idling? Idling is when a vehicle's engine is left running while it is stationary. This mostly happens because of everyday traffic, however research has shown that during pick up and drop off times, many parents who are waiting for their children outside school will often keep their car engine running.
Why is idling bad? Idling increases the amount of exhaust fumes in the air. These fumes contain a number of harmful gasses including carbon dioxide, which is bad for the environment.
We are here to support families in any way possible, so if you do need support please speak to your child's class teacher. Our pastoral team are always available if you need any support or advice
